Battery change-outs
If you have a Cardiac Rhythm Device implant, you may need a battery replacement from time to time. Typically, a pacemaker battery lasts about 7-8 years on average, but can range from 5 to 10 years or more. When the battery runs out, the pulse generator will need to be replaced. This procedure is often quicker and has a shorter recovery time than the initial implantation procedure.
As with all surgical procedures, there are some risks which you and your surgeon should discuss. Your physician will provide you with specific guidelines for your recovery.
